[dt. »Blitzspeicher«] (Flash RAM, Flash ROM, Flash-Speicher), dauerhaft speichernder Halbleiterbaustein, der auf der Basis des EEPROM entwickelt wurde. Er lässt sich sowohl lesen als auch beschreiben. Eine Besonderheit des Flash-Speichers besteht darin, dass er Daten in Blöcken speichert und auch nur blockweise gelöscht werden kann (im Gegensatz zum EEPROM, das sich byteweise beschreiben und löschen lässt); das Überschreiben von Daten ist nicht möglich. Die Zugriffszeiten liegen höher als bei dynamischen Halbleiterspeichern (ca. 0,1 ms, Stand 2001). Die Flash-Speicher haben eine Lebensdauer von ca. 100 000 Schreib- und Löschzyklen.
 
Flash Memory wird z. B. in Speicherkarten für Digitalkameras und Kleinstcomputern eingesetzt (CompactFlash, SmartMedia), man spricht dann auch von einer Flash Disk; Flash-Speicher werden auch für das BIOS (Flash-BIOS) verwendet.
